Greet each new day with joy, thankfulness, and reverence. Have a feeling of anticipation, looking forward to what the day will bring.

If worries spring to mind, set them aside. Let your mind come back to the present moment. “Now I am stretching to help my body wake up. Now I am brushing my teeth. Now I am sitting for meditation. ” And so on.

Let gratitude fill your heart. Focusing your attention on the everyday gifts that nature gives you can help you cultivate reverence.

In my own life, just placing my feet on the floor to connect with the earth first thing in the morning fills me with gratitude. Splashing warm water on my face connects me to the water that flows all over the planet. Drawing air deeply into my lungs as I glimpse the first rays of the sun brings a sense of joy; because fire, air, and prana have united in me. In those first moments of waking I feel a deep connection and gratitude to the Earth.

When we remember these connections with gratitude we can experience groundedness, a sense of belonging, and a feeling of abundant well being.

Create a Sacred Place

Create a sacred place in your home that draws you in and inspires you to spend time practicing yoga and meditation. It can be a corner of a room or, if possible, an entire room dedicated to your inner self. Have a special pillow or chair, some blankets, a candle, flowers or plants, inspiring pictures, inspirational books—anything uplifting to encourage you to be still and go within. Each time you pass that place, let it remind you of the peace within you. Most rooms in our homes have specific purposes. For instance: The bedroom is for sleeping or resting; the bathroom is for cleansing. We may not feel hungry when we step into the kitchen, yet the vibration of food in the kitchen stimulates our hunger. Seeing and feeling our quiet place can entice us to feel the hunger for peace.

Do not allow the world to permeate your special place. Turn off the ringer on the phone when you go there to meditate. Do not allow any, even friendly, and intruders to enter. Leave old worldly thoughts or worries behind as you open your mind to the piece with in.

Make the effort to create a space for meditation and contemplation and to start your day with peace and joy. The rewards will be great!

Namaste. ❤
